Lucy Baird - Statement

My practice is grounded in my study of Anthropology in which I hold bachelors degree. I photograph as a way of studying human habits, tendencies and phenomenon. Photography becomes a medium with which to study. Imbedded in all my work is a curiosity about the intricacies of society and the act of living. My work takes on social perspectives exploring ideas of class, age, family, and the current social climate. I photograph as a means appease my own curiosities about these topics, and to gain a deeper understanding of the nature of culture.

laz:

i think you could shore up habits, tendencies, and phenomenon to stronger concepts.  maybe combine 1st and 3rd sentences?  imbedded....the end of this sentence is too vague.  drop appease and frame everything like you do in the last sentence 2nd half...

Adam- Statement

I feel that my practice revolves around a questioning of ideology. This began first through exploring my personal role as homosexual in the world and how others perceived that role, but has now expanded to an exploration of identity based on notions of ownership, permanence and home. I began making art in search of answers, but it appears more and more that the answers I am making for myself do not solve anything, but are further complicated through additional questions that arise. I make art because it is a way for me to join conversations that have perhaps been previously tackled, but bringing my own set of complications and questions that need to be addressed—and if more questions than answers arise, so be it. Art is for me (and others), a way of exploring, questioning and sometimes presenting answers (whether true or constructed) to the human condition.

laz:
drop i feel
ideology?  lets discuss this
drop this began first, just get to exploration of identity and the rest of that sentence
drop previously tackled and so be it parts...
the last phase is a bit grand, lets reel that in a bit :)

Adam- Sites

Websites:

Good:

Anne Wilson: http://www.annewilsonartist.com/

really clean website and seems to follow the typical contemporary “artist” look. But also original setup, really accessible (all works are listed clearly, well written artist statement, nice layout)

Gil Yefman: http://www.gilyefman.com/index.php?/works/painting/
Really nice and clean, easy to navigate and explore. The only thing I’m not sure about is the amount of work on the site. I think its nice that he has exhibited a wide range of media, but I would not have included many of the drawings, paintings etc.

Bad:

Sarah Rahbar: http://www.sararahbar.com/
I really like her work but the site is really annoying. Its clean and it tries to be really nice, but everytime I go on it I’m disappointed by the fact that the sites page doesn’t really seem to fit the window, the quality of the images taken of the work doesn’t do it much justice, and I also feel like she doesn’t need so many representations of the same body of work (she’s beating a dead horse)

Really bad!:

Carrie Mae Weems: http://carriemaeweems.net/work.html
really unorganized and confusing. Too much discrepancy between pages and the amount of bodies of work on the site is overwhelming and unnecessary.

Elinor Carucci: http://www.elinorcarucci.com/closer.html
really great work but the site is distracting from it. Its really old fashioned and appears to have not been updated for a long time. It is not too hard to navigate but the site is too busy and I would not have shown a lot of the work she put on it. She also has tabs for “personal work” and Commercial Work” and I feel like she should have created separate sites for each-the commercial work is hardly as strong and takes away for her personal work.

michelle - websites

http://www.edpanar.com/ - i like the simple layout and how there's a lot to look at, though i do think it could be pared down...

http://www.inkaandniclas.com/ - website as a piece in itself

http://www.chadmuthard.com - i like the format but not how the menu disappears when you're on a section

http://www.markrockwoodphotography.com/ - bad bad BAD

http://www.jasonfulford.com - he needs sections!

http://www.collinge.com - kind of like ed panar's--could use editing but i like the simplicity and navigation

michelle - "statement"

Some things I am interested in: sexuality, intimacy, self-awareness, mental illness, and humor, and in the moments when these things overlap.
I am interested in the awkwardness inherent in human relationships and in the awkwardness that comes from documenting subjects that are meant to be private.
My own experiences are the easiest point of access for me, and my personal approach seems to suit these topics. However, I hope to not only make work about connectivity but also to connect to others.

laz:
change to:  I am interested in the moments and overlap of blah blah blah
flesh out the part of awkwardness in human relationships
reword and flesh out documenting private subjects part
how can you end stronger?
i think you need a bit more, but there's some good stuff in your draft...
