To be honest, lately (at least over the last school term) I have been struggling to create much work I am really excited about. I want to make a lot of work, take a lot of pictures. Maybe this is not enough of a project proposal, but I think it would be the most valuable to me. I am looking to draw together my two ways of working (as mentioned in my previous blog entry) to form a more cohesive body of work. I understand much of what I make is connected and I would like to explore that further—-explore how I might group certain pieces together to make more meaning. Part of this will be simply going back to always having a camera on me (and constantly using it), so I will probably end up with more 35mm photographs than usual.
Beyond using my immediate surroundings and experiences as inspiration, I am looking to a number of things. First, language, as I have before with puns... simply flipping through this book of ’20,000 Words’ [no definitions] has proved fruitful. I am also looking to classic imagery that I could recreate--one that comes to mind is me lounging, feeding myself grapes (and perhaps fanning myself as well). I was even looking at tarot cards (which I have no personal interest in) in one of the photos I posted, titled, 'Queen of Cups.' I think if I try a number of things, I will have a better idea of what direction to go in.
