1) What materials/media are best suited for my practice and the concepts I am working with?
2) How do I add complexity to my images? (and how do I do so without being overly complex?)
3) How do I use self portraiture without injecting the "self" too much into the work? (staying away from making Capital "I" work)
5) Is there a way for me to not be as literal with my work?
6) how do I make my practice more cohesive as a whole?
7) How do I grapple with such a complex part of my work--the Israeli/Palestinian Conflict--in a way that is poetic, extremely strong, knowledgeable, sensitive, etc.? how do I make sure I am not part of the %90 who make work that doesn't particularly say anything or affect anyone in any way?
8) Where does the idea of "home" exist? where do the boundaries of "home" end? Will people stop at nothing to establish an idea of "home"? why?
9) Does/should humor have a place in my work? how well does it work? are people in on the joke or do they feel spoken down to?
10) how do I place my work in a larger conversation? (both one that exists in the art-world and beyond)
Starting Strategies:
- Get better acclimated with cameras (as fast as possible), possibly go out shooting with 33mm or a Medium Format just for practice and for the hell of it!
- collect imagery (artists and other)
- perhaps contact previous homes I've lived in, sending each home a letter explaining my purpose and asking them to send me a photograph of their home.
- start reading ALOT. I feel like i'm really behind on a lot of important knowledge (some philosophy, anthropology, art criticism etc.) also reading Israel news daily/ world news.
-get a sketchbook and start filling it with ideas/sketches for possible work/new knowledge
