The question of why I make art is one I don't yet have a clear answer for. This is the closest I could come up with. I make art because I love evidence. I like finding things others have left behind and reading into the story. Conversely I love leaving things behind. It’s the universal human experience that leads me to believe I can extrapolate a life, a person, from a found object but it is my life I am really reflecting on. I like how images and objects take on a life and I like to have conversations with these things. I make art because I like to think about leaving a trail and picking up on the trails others have left behind. I want to explore myself and my world in as many ways as possible, for a while now that has meant the rigorous documentation of my life, next who knows.
steph, this isn't bad, you should try to write in a way more formal manner when you try writing a statement (which i'm sure you know) so please try rewriting in a more formal way, i'll give you an example of a start:
I'm interested in evidence and its relationship to photography. The framing of a person, place, thing or space asks questions of the viewer, and initiates a conversation with their past.
